• Fumar está significativamente asociado con la infección de TB y el desarrollo de la enfermedad.

• La exposición al humo de tabaco se asocial significativamente con la enfermedad de TB, y con la infección de TB en niños y jóvenes.

• Hasta una de cada cinco muertes por TB se podría evitar si los pacientes no fueran fumadores.

• Se debe asesorar y ayudar con el abandono a los fumadores con TB.

• El asesoramiento para dejar de fumar se puede poner en práctica sin una formación detallada ni costosa.
