Datos fundamentales
• Los fumadores tienden a subestimar los riesgos para la salud ocasionados por el consumo de tabaco.
• Las advertencias sanitarias eficaces de las cajetillas de cigarrillos alientan a los fumadores a dejar de fumar y desaniman a aquéllos que podrían comenzar a hacerlo.
• Las advertencias más efectivas suelen incluir imágenes y usan un lenguaje fuerte, claro y específico.
• Cerca de la mitad de la población mundial todavía está expuesta a términos engañosos como “light” y “bajo contenido en alquitrán” en los paquetes de cigarros.
• El Artículo 11 del CMCT exige a las partes la implementación de advertencias sanitarias fuertes así como la prohibición de términos engañosos como “light” y “bajo contenido en alquitrán” y diseños que se asocien a éstos.
